"Dear Alex. I just wanted to ..."
No. That was not right. Crossing out the words ferociously yet again, she sighed, slamming the piece of paper back on the table standing bravely at her side. She then grabbed her head in her hands before staring down shamefully at the humiliation she had put herself through. As if Alex had not done enough of that by himself ... No woman could possibly imagine ever being abandoned at the altar. And yet, there she was, living proof that these kind of things actually did happen ... That's when she went crazy.
She knew it had not all been her fault. At least, that's what they had told her.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience caused, Lorna. Truth be told, no one had noticed before that your powers were unstable. The more you use them, the more they use you. They wear you out physically, as you may have noticed, but also psychologically ... I think you still remember what happened on your 'wedding day'."
She could remember only too well. It was all there, in her thoughts, no matter how hard she tried to supress the memories. They simply kept coming back, like ants crawling out from the tiniest gaps in walls, or flies gliding in from the smallest window cracks. No matter how hard she tried, something prevented her from forgetting ... And from repeating her mistakes, yet again. She had to leave. She had to go elsewhere, even if it meant confronting the people here, and making good for all of her past bad deeds. She sighed, before picking up her green ballpoint yet once more, and writing in her simple script :
"Alex. I'm sorry. I'll be back when I feel better.
Lorna."
Leaving the note on the table for Alex, and only Alex to see, she exited his room before snapping her fingers, effectively putting the lock back in its place. It had been as if she had never opened the door to begin with.
